The Danube Region at a turning point - Stuttgart, 10 July 2023

Two events were organised by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economics, Labour and Tourism, where Dr. Tamara Besednjak Valič and Dr. Borut Rončević responded to the invitation as representatives of {Rudolf - Science and Technology Centre Novo mesto.



In the morning, a meeting of the Working Group "Innovation and Technology Transfer" was held, which operates within Priority Area No. 8 - Competitiveness of Small and Medium Enterprises of the European Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR). Dr. Tamara Besednjak Valič and Dr. Borut Rončević, on behalf of the {Rudolfovo - Science and Technology Centre Novo mesto, participated in the meeting as members of the Working Group. They participated in the group discussion part, where the panellists focused on innovation and technology transfer to support the implementation of the Green Deal in the manufacturing sector in the Danube Region. The groups explored options for simplifying the regulatory environment, faster access to innovation finance, innovation and technology transfer skills and ways to build resilient supply chains.


The morning event kicked off with keynote speakers, Dr. Jonathan Loeffler, Executive Director of Steinbeis Europa Zentrum, and Carmen Hawkins, EUSDR PA8 Coordinator from the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economy, Labour and Tourism.


Among the speakers, Daniela Chiran presented the objectives of the Working Group on Innovation and Technology Transfer and stressed the importance of cooperation with the other working groups of Priority Area 8. Dr. Balázs Barta, Director of the Pannon Business Network, presented the development of applications in the manufacturing sector that support the objectives of the Green Deal. Prof. Dr. Dieter Hertweck from the University of Reutlingen then described the important role of digitisation in achieving the Green Deal objectives.



The second part of the day was devoted to participation in an event entitled: "The Danube Region at a turning point - actively shaping transformation. Solutions approaches for politics and economy". This event was also organised by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Tourism in cooperation with the Baden-Württemberg State Ministry. The aim of the event is to discuss cooperation between economic, political and civil society stakeholders in the Danube Region in the light of the current changes related to the conflict in Ukraine, climate change, value chains, energy price developments and skills shortages. Discussants shared their thoughts on new opportunities and possible solutions arising from transnational cooperation in the region, also addressing the current situation in Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova.


The event is part of the "Danube Region at a Turning Point" series and is aimed primarily at representatives of business, politics, associations, research institutions, municipalities and other interested persons and stakeholders from the Danube Region. From Slovenia, the event was attended by: a representative of the Ministry of Economy, Tourism and Sport, a representative of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia, a representative of the University of Maribor and a representative of the {Rudolfovo - Science and Technology Centre Novo mesto.
