OpenAlex: a catalogue of open research publications
Zoom, 17 April 2025 at 9.00, Prof. Dr. Vladimir Batagelj (UP FAMNIT)
OpenAlex is a fully open catalogue of global research publications, launched in January 2022, named after the ancient Library of Alexandria. It was created and is maintained by OurResearch, a non-profit organisation. OpenAlex indexes more than twice as many scientific works as the market-leading services Web of Science and Scopus. The entire knowledge network and its source code are open and freely available through data snapshots, an easy-to-use API and a web-based user interface. In addition to free access, it also allows access from user programs for more sophisticated bibliographic analysis. We will first introduce the OpenAlex service and some basic use cases. We will then show how to use the OpenAlex2Pajek (in R) software library to build bibliographic networks.
This is the seventh event in the Open Science at the University of Primorska series.
The presentation will be in Slovene.
Recognising open science in evaluation, a Dutch approach
Zoom, 24 April 2025 at 10.30, Dr Marta Teperek (NWO), Dr Inge van der Weijden (Leiden University), Andrea Reyes Elizondo (Leiden University), TBC (Utrecht University)
The transition to open science requires a cultural shift that cannot rely solely on the motivation of individual researchers. We need a new vision and policies for research organisations and funders. In this presentation, colleagues from the Netherlands will share different initiatives that are currently underway: Dr Marta Teperek will present the funder's perspective, Drs Inge van der Weijden and Andrea Reyes Elizondo will give an overview of different initiatives at Dutch universities, and a person from the University of Utrecht will share insights into a local project on the recognition of open science.
The presentation will be in English.
