Rudolfovo: The link between science and technology and business

Two years of innovation, networking projects and visible results from the Science and Technology Centre Novo mesto

Established on 23 March 2022, Rudolfovo - Science and Technology Centre Novo mesto has achieved a number of results in just over two years of operation, contributing to the development of high technologies and the economic competitiveness of the region. Its achievements include 4 research centres and 5 state-of-the-art laboratories, with 49 employees. It has won 4 international and 8 national projects, 40 industrial projects and 4 innovation prizes. They have also organised more than 30 scientific and promotional events. Their scientific performance is also reflected in their extensive bibliographic indexes and mentoring of PhD students.

Rudolfovo vision of becoming a world-class high-tech research organisation successfully links science and technology with business. Its applied projects, advanced research and collaborations create solutions that address today's key challenges.

Four research centres - the Centre for Advanced Technologies, the Centre for Digitalisation, the Centre for Circular Economy and the Centre for Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property - are at the core of Rudolfovo. These centres make use of five laboratories and enable interdisciplinary research and development at the highest level, which is reflected in the acquisition of projects such as the recently acquired European Centre of Excellence for Applied Quantum Technologies (QEC4QEA), the Development of Artificial Intelligence for Education (AI4VET4AI), the Culinary Trail in the Danube Region (Culinary Trail) and Innovation in the Bioeconomy (RuBio). Among the national projects, the SadjAR project stands out as a standout, which uses Augmented Reality to support the agricultural sector.

Collaboration with industry has resulted in numerous successes, from patents and innovation awards to the implementation of solutions in companies such as Iskra PIO, Energetik and Krka. In two years, the researchers have produced over 300 scientific and over 500 peer-reviewed publications, demonstrating their commitment to scientific excellence and knowledge transfer.

Rudolfovo is making an important contribution to the development of south-eastern Slovenia. Through strong links with economic and educational institutions, it creates a supportive environment for innovation, knowledge transfer and sustainable development. Their future is focused on even closer cooperation with the economy and strengthening their position as a leading high-tech centre in Slovenia.

Director, Prof. Dr. Janez Povh, took the opportunity to highlight: "In this short time, Rudolfovo has left a noticeable mark on the environment. We support the development of the domestic environment through industrial and national projects, and we contribute to the development of European society and beyond through European projects and scientific publications. We are putting into practice a vision of science that brings concrete solutions to today's and tomorrow's challenges."

Dr Tomaž Savšek, Chairman of the Board of Rudolfovo, emphasised that " The South-Eastern Slovenia region stands out because of its large and successful economic systems (Krka d.d., Rudolfovo has built a partnership relationship with all these organisations, which is reflected in the acquisition of development projects for these organisations, in the cooperation agreements signed with them, in the exchange of knowledge, students and employees. The Board of Directors follows and supports the work of Rudolfovo very closely."

Tomaž Kordiš, Director of the GZDBK, added: "Rudolfovo, with its focus on cooperation with business, is an important generator of innovations, which are regularly recognised as gold or silver innovations by the Chamber of Commerce of Dolenjska and Bela Krajina."
