GZDBK Silver Innovation Award 2024
The winners of the Innovation Award, which is also protected by the European trademark {LabE at the European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), application no. 019022982, are the team of the Energy Management Laboratory - {LabE: Dr. Kristof Debeljak, Jure Kos, Dr. Jelena Joksimović, Dr. Nika Brili, Dr. Ana Hafner and Dr. Janez Povh.
PGZ Silver Award for ThermoBoost
It is an invention that promises to lower heating and cooling bills for households. Energetik from Izola and {Rudolfovo joined forces for this innovation. The successful collaboration also led to the patent application P-202400023.
The practical experience of inventors Silvan Bizjak and Danjiel Kekić from Energetik were combined with the theoretical knowledge of Dr. Slavko Arho and Mohammad Reza Ghavi from {Rudolfovo.
Households and businesses often have relatively modern heating systems installed, but these are not working optimally, which means that there is often unnecessary energy wastage. The award-winning innovation solves the problem of how to improve existing heating systems for buildings with a system of elements that will achieve better energy efficiency and thus lower consumption of fossil fuels and electricity. The heating elements - the domestic hot water boiler, the storage tank, the outdoor air conditioning unit, the indoor heat pump unit and the outdoor heat pump unit - are interconnected in a specific way. Optionally, solar collectors are added to the system. Existing heating installations can effectively extend their lifetime with this invention, while the user pays lower heating bills in the cold months and lower cooling bills in the summer.
This has already been confirmed in practice: three customers in the Slovenian Primorska region (a private house, a multi-apartment building and a butcher's shop), where the solution has already been implemented, report with satisfaction significantly lower bills and, at a personal level, a contribution to the global reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
