Invitation to the seminar "Exploring Advanced Techniques in Topological Data Analysis for Point Clouds" by Prof. Dr. Žige Virk and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Boštjan Gabrovšek

{Rudolfovo - Science and Technology Centre Novo mesto invites you to attend the scientific seminar "Exploring Advanced Techniques in Topological Data Analysis for Point Clouds", which will be presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Žiga Virk (FRI, UL) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Boštjan Gabrovšek (FS, UL).

The seminar will take place on Wednesday, 8 May 2024, at 12.00 in the {Rudolfovo} meeting room and via TEAMS (Meeting ID: 325 392 442 016 - Password: p4C53f).

Abstract:

»In this seminar, we will delve into the innovative application of Persistent Homology (PH) in the analysis of point clouds. Persistent homology, a cornerstone of topological data analysis, provides a robust framework for identifying and quantifying topological features across varying scales in data. We will explore its utility in understanding the underlying structure of point cloud data, which is crucial in various fields such as computer vision, molecular biology, and 3D reconstruction.

The session will highlight recent advancements and methodologies that have been developed to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of this analysis. Key topics will include the optimization of Vietoris-Rips complexes, implications of coarse geometry in data analysis, and the topological nuances of wild spaces.

This seminar aims to not only provide a deeper understanding of persistent homology in the context of point clouds but also to foster discussions on emerging research areas and potential applications of topology and geometry in modern data science.«

You are cordially invited! The seminar will be in English.
