The Faculty of Industrial Engineering Novo mesto (FINI), the Faculty of Organizational Studies in Novo mesto (FOŠ) and the public research institute Rudolfovo - Scientific and Technological Centre Novo mesto successfully held the 9th International Conference on the Development of Industrial Engineering entitled "Opportunities, Potentials and Challenges for the Green Transition". The conference took place at the Rudolfovo JRZ and was attended by experts from Slovenia and abroad working in industry, research institutes, higher education institutions and the wider professional public.
The main objective of the scientific meeting is to ensure the transfer of knowledge between stakeholders, with a focus on development trends and awareness of the need for quality human resources, especially in the technological and industrial sectors, but also in the broader research field. The conference, which traditionally promotes knowledge transfer between academia and business, this year highlighted the importance of sustainable development and green technologies for achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
The event started with opening remarks by Prof. Dr. Simon Muhič, Dean of FINI Novo mesto, Prof. Dr. Janez Povh, Director of the Rudolfovo JRZ and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tomaž Savšek, Chairman of the Programme Committee. Invited lectures and thematic sessions followed, where participants discussed key topics such as the Green Transition, Sustainable Technologies and Materials and Strategies for a Sustainable Society. Among others, panellists addressed the application of life cycle analysis in the energy sector, energy use forecasting with advanced models and the circular economy in relation to iron and steel technologies. Presentations included innovative research on hybrid materials, sustainable 3D printing and mechanical properties of steel, as well as sustainable product development, fluid flow analysis and process optimisation in industrial production.
Prof. Dr. Simon Muhič, Dean of the Faculty of Industrial Engineering Novo mesto, emphasised: "The skills needed to address the challenges of the green transition and the dissemination of these skills are key to successfully meeting the EU's 2050 climate neutrality targets. In this context, particular attention needs to be paid to the issue of the green transition, as it needs to be implemented in a way that will empower a competitive economy. At the same time, it is important to recognise that the green transition brings not only many challenges but also many opportunities."
A total of 22 scientific and professional papers were presented and included in the Proceedings of the Reviewed Papers, published under the auspices of FINI Novo mesto.
The conference concluded with a summary of key findings and an emphasis on the importance of further cooperation between business and research and educational institutions.
The conference was sponsored by HSE d.o.o., which supports sustainable projects and the green transition through its activities.
The HSE Group is one of the promoters of the green transition in Slovenia, striving for safe, reliable, competitive and profitable electricity production, which is carried out efficiently and in an environmentally responsible manner by experienced and dedicated employees.
