{Rudolfovo - Science and Technology
Centre Novo Mesto

Science gets its true meaning when it comes to life in solutions that improve life.

The public research institute {Rudolfovo - Science and Technology Centre Novo Mesto was established on 23 March 2022 by the Government of the Republic of Slovenia, namely with the aim of supporting the technological development and innovation of South-Eastern Slovenia, and thus in Slovenia as a whole.

{Rudolfovo contributes to the upgrading of cooperation systems between economic and educational activities, to the development of development and research activity and to the general socio-economic situation in the region by stimulating innovation potential, enabling the development and testing of new tools and methods, and thus promoting the comprehensive and sustainable development of the region.

Objectives

At {Rudolfovo, we want to create a strong ecosystem of highly innovative companies in SouthEastern Slovenia, which will be based on high technology. This will enable stability, the creation of quality jobs and economic prosperity in the area, with a focus on high added value. An important part of the strategy is the establishment of a state-of-theart research infrastructure, which will be the basis for transferring knowledge to the economy and the public sector.

In addition, we support existing large and medium-sized enterprises in South-Eastern Slovenia and help them innovate their products, services and processes in collaboration with researchers from {Rudolfovo and thereby increase their competitiveness and added value. We transfer knowledge to younger generations, including inspiring young people to pursue STEM professions (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), and cooperate closely with higher education organisations.

Research and development work and
the four pillars of the {Rudolfovo

{Rudolfovo research and development work is focused on:

  • key technologies for Industry 4.0 and 5.0, especially in the first decade of its operation,

  • digitization and digital transformation of the economy and the entire society;

  • circular economy, and

  • transfer of research results and technological knowledge to the environment while protecting intellectual property and thereby promoting technological, non-technological and social innovations, technologically more demanding entrepreneurship and consequently increasing productivity and added value in the economy.

The activities are reinforced by four research and development pillars {Rudolfovo:

CENTRE FOR ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES

The Centre for Advanced Technologies is the largest research team at {Rudolfovo. It is engaged in a wide range of cutting-edge technologies in the fields of industry, smart factories, agriculture, education, energy, materials testing and extended reality (VR, AR and MR). We use equipment from all our laboratories for research and development tasks.

CENTRE FOR DIGITALIZATION

The Centre for Digitalisation carries out research and development work in 3D technologies, digital twins, supercomputing and quantum computing. With advanced 3D scanners and CT scanners, we convert products into point clouds, look for hidden defects in the point clouds and check whether the measured geometry and structure of the products comply with the plans and standards. We do this using the most advanced software, complemented by our own AIbased solutions.

CENTRE FOR THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY

The Centre focuses on addressing the challenges of the transition to a circular economy. The research work mainly focuses on approaches to achieving a circular economy, energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources, life cycle assessment (LCA), policies in this area, and the development of methodological instruments for evaluating and monitoring the transition to a circular economy.

CENTRE FOR TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

At the Centre for Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property Rights, we research and develop methods, processes and prerequisites for transferring technological knowledge into the business environment, as well as the synergistic effects of multidisciplinary efforts, and explore processes and tools for intellectual property. Our efforts are also focused on increasing understanding of the dispersion and adoption of new technologies within innovation systems and understanding the relationship between intellectual property and other approaches such as open science.

SOCIAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Researchers at {Rudolfovo also explore the meaning and impact of new technologies on society, the absorptive capacity of technologies in various social contexts, the evolution of technology in the service of mankind, and the human impact on the wider social and natural environment.

The Education

In cooperation with educational institutions, we offer the following courses:

  • Practical education (Faculty of Information Studies in Novo Mesto; program Digitalization, Internet of Things and Industrial Automation (DISIA))

  • Basics of industrial automation – optional subject (Faculty of Information Studies in Novi Mesto; program Informatics in Modern Society)

  • Mechatronics systems 2 (Higher Vocational School, School Center Novo mesto; Mechatronics program)

We also carry out customized trainings or adapted to clients, namely from the fields of Industry 4.0, automation, digitalization, and artificial intelligence.
